The whole world is waiting just outside the front door. This kit helps your little one go find it. 🌿✨
Introducing the My Nature Journal Kit from Sticky Little Makers, a complete outdoor exploration and nature journaling kit that encourages children to go outside, observe the natural world around them, and document everything they discover through drawing, collaging, and creative writing.
Because nature does not belong only to children who live near forests and national parks. It belongs to every child who has ever stopped to watch a butterfly in a city park, collected a fallen leaf from a sidewalk tree, or looked up at the clouds and wondered what they are made of. This kit tells every child that the natural world is theirs. Wherever they are. Whatever it looks like outside their window.
What is inside your kit:
- 1 softcover nature journal with thick watercolor friendly pages and a decorated cover featuring an illustrated Black child exploring outdoors
- 1 set of 8 watercolor pencils for sketching and coloring nature observations
- 1 magnifying glass for close up nature exploration
- 10 nature collection envelopes for storing pressed leaves, flower petals, and small natural finds
- 1 sheet of illustrated nature stickers featuring leaves, flowers, insects, birds, clouds, and weather patterns for decorating journal pages
- 1 sheet of observation prompt stickers reading WHAT DO I SEE, WHAT DO I HEAR, WHAT DO I SMELL, and WHAT DOES THIS REMIND ME OF

- 1 illustrated guide card introducing ten common Georgia plants and animals for local nature identification
- 1 affirmation insert card reading Nature Belongs to Me and I Belong to Nature

How your little naturalist uses their kit:
Step one: Go outside. It does not have to be a forest or a park. A backyard, a sidewalk, a school playground, or a balcony all count. Nature is everywhere once you start looking for it.
Step two: Observe. Use the magnifying glass to look closely at leaves, insects, flowers, and anything else that catches their eye. Use the observation prompt stickers in the journal to guide what they notice.
Step three: Document. Sketch, paint, and write about everything they discover using the watercolor pencils and journal pages. Press interesting leaves and flower petals into the collection envelopes to save for later.
Step four: Decorate. Use the nature stickers to add illustrated elements to journal pages alongside their own drawings and observations.
Step five: Play nature bingo. Use the bingo card on every outdoor adventure to make finding things in nature feel like a treasure hunt.
What makes this kit different from every other nature kit:
Nature journals and outdoor exploration kits exist in the children's market but they almost universally feature generic woodland imagery and a narrow vision of what nature looks like and who it belongs to. This kit centers Black children in the natural world explicitly and intentionally. The journal cover features an illustrated Black child explorer. The Georgia plant and animal guide reflects the specific natural environment your little one actually lives in. The affirmation card sends a message that has never been more important for Black children to hear. Nature is yours. It always has been.
For children growing up in urban environments this kit is especially powerful because it actively invites them to find and celebrate nature wherever they are. A crack in the sidewalk with a weed growing through it is just as worthy of documentation as a forest trail. A butterfly in a city park is just as magnificent as one in a national park. This kit teaches children to see the extraordinary in the ordinary natural world around them every single day.
Ways to use your nature journal kit: Weekend outdoor adventures in local parks and green spaces Backyard and neighborhood nature walks School nature study companion Summer break daily outdoor exploration activity Rainy day pressed flower and leaf collage project Road trip nature observation journal Family nature bingo game during outdoor time Science fair project documentation tool

A note for Atlanta area families: The Georgia plant and animal identification guide inside this kit was created specifically for the natural environment of metro Atlanta and surrounding areas. Your little naturalist will be able to identify magnolia leaves, lightning bugs, red clay soil, and Georgia pine cones alongside other common local species making every outdoor adventure in your own neighborhood a genuine discovery experience.
